1_1vsOldSettler A fair result for a fairly even game — though we could have used a bit more luck and a few favourable calls. Their #6, Tommy, had an early break and probably made a few too many moves to deke out our d-men. When he did get a shot away, Kyle was there to dive and block it. Andrew Overbeek got his 5th goal of the season soon after and we had other good close plays. Al was demonstrating how to play aggressively and Daniel Klop was getting up for the headers. Late in the first half, Steve put a ball out off #6's foot, but the ref disagreed. He awarded a corner kick and the ball came down in the box and bounced around for about 9 or 10 touches. It just couldn't be cleared, there were so many bodies in the way. (Next time, let's look for a sideways out.) Finally, one of their guys got a foot on it and nailed it into the net. In the second, we had the wind at our backs. Our best chances were on a set-up to Andrew that was called off-side but was on-side by a couple of yards — and on a free kick by Bruce from about 30 yards out. Bruce got a curve ball off the cross bar, off the back (or head) of the goalie who was on the line — back up to the crossbar, down to the ground... and then it was kicked away by a defender. Had the ref been closer to the line, he may have seen it in. We also pressed in the last minute and Al put one in the box for a few headers that didn't quite connect. Old Settler got us 5-2 and 2-0 last year. We're now undefeated in 3! City and Young Guns played to a 2-2 tie on the other field. Date(s): Jan31, 2009. Album by Barry Stewart.
