History of Gewürztraminer
The Traminer family, which includes Gewürztraminer, sometimes known as the "spicy" Traminer, is a genetically unstable Vinifera family that has given rise to numerous clones throughout the years. Although Traminer grapes have been around for a while, it's thought that they first appeared close to the settlement of Tramin in South Tyrol, in German-speaking Italy. According to some sources, the region has been home to Traminer grape cultivation since the eleventh century.
