Because they are our pets, our Rat terriers are raised in our home with our family.
The primary reason anyone becomes involved with dog breeding and showing is a fundamental love of dogs. We treasure the companionship, the never failing loyalty, the delight they exude. We love to have them on our beds. Their eagerness to face the new day, even when we wake them up at dreadful hours, provides us a wonderment that brings back the exuberance of childhood. - 7 Foundations of A Successful Dog Breeder
We breed to preserve the natural characteristics of the breed. By breeding to the UKC standard and for good health, temperament and hunting ability, we have seen our puppies move on to be great pets, great farm dogs and we've even had some nice show dogs out there. It is our pleasure to share our dogs with you & hope you will take time to see our photos and if you're interested in talking "Rat Terriers" we would love to hear from you.
Our dogs usually grow to be 10-15" in height. Mini-Small standard size according to the UKC registry.
I put this page together to compare different heads as babies and as adults. I finally compiled these images in ONE place to refer to when we have newborns to watch! :-)
In keeping with our breeding goals, I wanted to include some pictures of our dogs at work...on farms, around the house & out in the woods.
Rat Terriers (if bred true to instinct) have a tendency to chase & kill vermin and small game. Mice, Rats, Moles, Squirrels, Woodchucks, Rabbits and sometimes Coons are hunted with this breed.
I need to get more photos of our dogs hunting in the woods & hopefully some more squirrel hunting pictures/tailgates as we get more involved in the sport.
Squirrel Dog Central Forums Hunting tips, tricks, networking etc... various squirrel & tree dog breeds of all sizes and shapes.
Decker Hunting Terrier Forum For those who love & appreciate the Decker line hunting Rat Terriers & the family who gave us this wonderful strain of dogs.
Puppies who were either born and raised here OR puppies sired by our male Rat Terriers. We are proud of all of them, and hope you will appreciate the numerous baby pictures and updates from the puppies' new families.
Some photos of our dogs playing, showing, practicing and just being Rat Terriers!
We also have additional photography albums for your pleasure in this folder
This album contains photos of my Grammy's Garden in Barre VT. I photographed these May 9, 2008.

1 Peter 1 23For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24For,
"All men are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25but the word of the Lord stands forever."
This album features some of the Rat Terriers that we had raised, and live elsewhere. Most of them with friends who have interest in showing them or hunting with them.

I saw a television infomercial for these new indoor doggy potties. I had to giggle, but then thought that this might be an interesting way to house break puppies! So we're going to give it a try. The price is fairly reasonable too!
Looking for a great gift? Want to capture your pet in a unique way? I love the Moses Art site, they do great work! Also check out All Pets considered, you can search products by breed name, and find some really cool gifts that way too!
Primary Lens Luxation ****UPDATE***2012***
Since this page was made in November 2009, we have taken great care to test every dog we breed to, so that we would be able to avoid crossing carrier dogs and affected dogs in our program. As of now, the only dog we have left at our home, or who is co-owned, that is a PLL Carrier, is Radar, who will be retiring in the next year or so. All of our dogs are now PLL NORMAL either by DNA testing, or by having two clear parents!!
This page was created to put a face to an issue that has been ticking like a time bomb in the Rat Terrier breed for a while now...
Below are some links to explain what PLL is, and how it's treated. Ladybug's story and some links about how breeders can get away from this issue with the new DNA testing that is available. Prior to just a month ago (Oct. 2009) there was NO test, and no way of knowing other than anecdotal evidence whether the issue was in a line, or even how it was inherited. Now we know that A. It's a autosomal recessive, and B. that it is something we can breed away from IF we test and are careful not to cross carriers.
I strongly recommend pet insurance, if you only have one or two dogs this might help you in the long run, for less $ in some cases, than a bag of kibble, a policy premium for Rat Terriers is fairly inexpensive at the moment. The program below offers coverage for Specialists, ER visits, and Breed specific health issues that can sometimes cost thousands of dollars. No networks so no worries about needing a referral to get to the ER or specialist. This is the best plan I've found so far, if you have something better tell us about it by signing the guest book below. Thanks!
