UPDATED 1-18-2010

Send us a photo of your Warren Mountain Rat Terrier and we may put their picture up above! Pictured here are Britches & Dora racing in the snow.

We are located near the top of Warren Mountain in Roxbury Vermont.
Because they are our pets, our Rat terriers are raised in our home with our family.

The primary reason anyone becomes involved with dog breeding and showing is a fundamental love of dogs. We treasure the companionship, the never failing loyalty, the delight they exude. We love to have them on our beds. Their eagerness to face the new day, even when we wake them up at dreadful hours, provides us a wond...erment that brings back the exuberance of childhood. - 7 Foundations of A Successful Dog Breeder

We are not breeding just to offer "pets for sale" or "Beautiful Show Dogs" we breed to preserve the natural characteristics of the breed. By breeding to the UKC standard and for good health, temperament and hunting ability, we have seen our puppies move on to be great pets, great farm dogs and we've even had some nice show dogs out there. It is our pleasure to share our dogs with you & hope you will take time to see our photos and if you're interested in talking "Rat Terriers" we would love to hear from you.

Our dogs usually grow to be 10-15" in height. Mini-Small standard size according to the UKC registry.

Hunting Dogs
1. Hunting Dogs  (November 25, 2009)

In keeping with our breeding goals, I wanted to include some pictures of our dogs at work...on farms, around the house & out in the woods.

Rat Terriers (if bred true to instinct) have a tendency to chase & kill vermin and small game. Mice, Rats, Moles, Squirrels, Woodchucks, Rabbits and sometimes Coons are hunted with this breed.

I need to get more photos of our dogs hunting in the woods & hopefully some more squirrel hunting pictures/tailgates as we get more involved in the sport.

Will add more/better pictures as we go along...

I saw a television infomercial for these new indoor doggy potties. I had to giggle, but then thought that this might be an interesting way to house break puppies! So we're going to give it a try. The price is fairly reasonable too!

Looking for a great gift? Want to capture your pet in a unique way? I love the Moses Art site, they do great work! Also check out All Pets considered, you can search products by breed name, and find some really cool gifts that way too!

Finally a chance to go for a good ride! The rain has been awful this summer.

Just a few pics of my bike, hubby, nephew n' brother in law. We were an odd lot, Harley D , Honda shadow, Honda XL650 and my wee Yamaha xt 225

We rode up rte 302, to woodsville NH, down 10, then crossed back into Bradford VT, Fairlee, Chelsea, Randolph, and back home on 12A.

There was still one train car from the derailment earlier this week, I had to stop n' snap a pic.

PLL  (November 13, 2009)
Primary Lens Luxation

This page was created to put a face to an issue that has been ticking like a time bomb in the Rat Terrier breed for a while now...

Below are some links to explain what PLL is, and how it's treated. Ladybug's story and some links about how breeders can get away from this issue with the new DNA testing that is available. Prior to just a month ago (Oct. 2009) there was NO test, and no way of knowing other than anecdotal evidence whether the issue was in a line, or even how it was inherited. Now we know that A. It's a autosomal recessive, and B. that it is something we can breed away from IF we test and are careful not to cross carriers.

NEW DNA Test available October 2009...determines your dog's risk of a lens luxation issue...Keep reading this page for more helpful info

Practical Genetics for Bull Terrier Breeders and Owners

Jerold S Bell, DVM, Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine

Health Seminar presented to the Bull Terrier Club of America, October 10, 2002

I strongly recommend pet insurance, if you only have one or two dogs this might help you in the long run, for less $ in some cases, than a bag of kibble, a policy premium for Rat Terriers is fairly inexpensive at the moment. The program below offers coverage for Specialists, ER visits, and Breed specific health issues that can sometimes cost thousands of dollars. No networks so no worries about needing a referral to get to the ER or specialist. This is the best plan I've found so far, if you have something better tell us about it by signing the guest book below. Thanks!
