Cow: HAND PAINTED JEWELRY

The craft of hand painting on porcelain began around 1876 and has been practiced as a hobby by women for many decades, but was especially popular around the turn of the 20th century. Floral motifs were a perennial favorite.

Takahashi wood birds
Made from WWII to the 1980s

A group of hand-carved and hand-painted wood birds made by Yoneguma and Kiyoka Takahashi.  I originally became interested in these based on a bird found by Judi Bollan, and bought my first bird, the pheasant at the top, from Rene Colon.  I now have about 45 birds.

Unusual hand painted porcelain in that this one is
actually a sash pin, it's over 3". Also, the porcelain itself is
stamped 'Germany'. So much hand painted porcelain did come out of
Germany at the time, the piece was could just as well have been made
here though, with the plaque having been imported

Hand Painted Persian Jewelry.
These items were all bought in Israel, but they were made by immigrants from Iran. Most of them were done by the father of an elderly silversmith I came to know well. I believe they were all done about 1950, though they use themes that are very old.
