Skip in Port St. Joe, FL

Skip is a 6-yr old Rat Terrier who was surrendered to the SJBHS when his owners of 6-yrs (all he had ever known) were forced to move from their home & were not able to bring Skip with them. Skip is such a “love” and wants to be everywhere you are. He is house trained and affectionate. Skip is being fostered in a home with another male dog and they get along famously. Skip enjoys his long walks on the beach and stays close by off leash. If you have room in your heart & home- please come meet Skip! You may contact Melody at 850-227-1103 or go online at www.sjbhumanesociety.org and complete one of our applications. Completed applications can be faxed to 850-227-1191.

Peanut in Washington

Peanut is estimated to be between 7-9 years old. She is healthly, and has just had a dental cleaning. She is shy but friendly, has not uttered a bark, and is crate trained. She is very good with other dogs of any breed, has shown no food or toy aggression, is very respectful of cats, and has not shown any attempts to dig in the yard. She will allow you to do anything with her and is curious and friendly to strangers. She does well on a leash and does not get on furniture preferring her blanket or crate to sleep in. From her condition when she was found we believe she was religated to the life of a "backyard breeder" since she was found with another RT, both engouraged with milk and evidence of having just given birth but no puppies were ever located and no one ever came to claim them. Despite being relegated to on-leash outings only, she seems to be adjusting well with more of her playful personality coming out every day. Her foster mom travels quite freque...

Benny in Houston

Hi! My name is Benny and I’m looking for someone to adopt me and give me a forever home. My foster Mommy found me wandering the streets the day after Hurricane Ike, but no one has claimed me so now I’m rescued, and looking for a home to call my own. I’m a really good boy, I "sit" and "shake" on commands.

Benny is neutered and current on vaccinations.

ADOPTION FEE: Applies

Mr. Specks is an adorable 9-lb. Rat Terrier that wants to be your constant companion. He loves to cuddle in your lap and just be close to you. He lived with a cat in his past life. He is completely housebroken and gets along with other dogs. He is crate trained also.

He is neutered and current on vaccinations.

ADOPTION FEE: $125

Petey in West Virginia

Petey is 8-9 months old. He was pulled from a high kill shelter in NC and is now being fostered in WV. He is a great dog with tons of energy! He gets along well with dogs of any breed. He just wants to play. He is excellent in his crate (sleeps in it at night without a peep). He loves to sit on your lap. He needs some leash training and has overcome initial shyness. He can be a barker. He knows "come," "sit" and "lay down." He looks like he could be a good agility dog.

He is neutered and current on vaccinations.

Sandy in Peterborough, ON, CAN (click photo for more information)

I was rescued on one of my last days in the shelter. The shelter staff was frantic to find me a rescue spot as I am such an exceptional girl. I weigh 12 lbs and am a Rat Terrier. I have had oodles of pups in the past and can be quite motherly although at times dominant. I want attention so very badly and warm laps to curl up in. I like to go for walks, sleep in my crate at night and am housebroken. Overall, I am a quieter dog but need a family that can include me. I have lacked for attention for such a long time and would be happiest to be part of someone's world. And now a few words from my foster mom: Sandy is housebroken, sleeps in her crate at night and for the most part gets along with other dogs. She loves to cuddle but does not like to have to share her human companion with other dogs so she would be best in a home where she is the only dog. An adults-only home would be best for her.

Penny in the Ottawa (CAN) area (click photo for more information)

Penny is a sweet young Rat Terrier mix, estimated to be about a year old and weighs about 15lbs. Penny LOVES to play and will chew on just about anything. She learns very quickly though and will only chew on 'no no' items if there are no toys around. Penny is crate trained and will run to the door and turn around in circles if she wants out. Penny has never met someone she didn't like, she is good with kids, dogs and cats so far (though her fosterhome cats don't much enjoy her attempts to play). She is still very much a fearless puppy though, so should be monitored around young children since she can be mouthy and chewy. Penny is sweet, goofy and loving as can be but will sometimes try to sneakily dominate other dogs or people, so she should go to a home that understands potential alpha behaviour.

She is spayed and current on vaccinations.

ADOPTION FEE: $400
