Mattie is named for the most famous Madame in Colorado, Mattie Silks. She owned a brothel on Market Street in Denver in the late 1800's before prostitution was outlawed. Although she was never a prostitute herself, she had a soft spot for "her" girls and took very good care of them.

I have one of Mattie's baby boys, "Jimi" (formerly known as Soapy) I was raised w/ Labs, and Jimi, is by far, the best retriever I have EVER seen. He'll go after the ball for HOURS & never ever gives up if he can't find it. He's gone thru bushes, swam the length of a swimming pool, jumped over some fencing, all w/out taking his nose or eyes off the ball.
