Cased 7.62 available sale POR! The PRC adopted the SVD for their armed forces & Police, it's believed the first rifles were either Soviet builds or Soviet kits, a few of the PRC examples that came into the US in the late 80's early 90's have the remains of the Ishevsk arsenal stamp, or appear to have been "cleaned" & remarked in some cases. Some of the last of the Chinese imports were chambered in 308. Both a very early leather cased 7.62x54 rifle & a later .308 version are shown in this album.

Leather/velour cased 7.62x54 SVD The very first Chinese guns that came in were complete sets w/all accessories & had a leather case, velour lined w/cutouts for the rifle & all the accessories.
SVD Cased set Very early import cased set, these only came in 7.62x54 & only in very limited numbers, afterwards the rifles alone came in & were sold w/differing numbers of magazines & accessories, it's believed the accessories sold w/the gun may have been at the decision of the importers.
Left side of cased set Here you can see the lens brush, screwdriver, 2 different eyepieces for the scope & the Chinese copy of the original PSO-1 scope, these scopes were equipped w/the IR detector.
Center area of cased set Here you can see the 5 mags, sling, cleaning/tool kit, 3pc cleaning rod set & front sight adjusting tool.
Another pic of the center of the case Here you can also see the green plastic Chinese lubricant bottle & the hilt of the bayonet. The bayonet which came in this set is the late AKM/AK74 type w/squared handle & has the sawback on the blade unlike the bayonets that came in w/the Chinese Type56 (AK's)which did not have the sawback.
Right view of the cased set. Full view of the bayonet & also the cheekpiece. The cheekpiece on this rifle has a plastic body w/brown leather cover as opposed to the Soviet guns which are wood.
Left side w/bayonet dismounted This gun is almost identical in all features to my 83 Ishevsk Soviet rifle, all laminate furniture, adjustable gas port, IR detect equipped PSO-1 scope etc. The color of the wood is also very close, almost a honey brown to the Soviet gun as opposed to the later Soviet dark red laminate.
SVD w/bayonet affixed. This particular rifle is brand new, never had a round chambered or fired (other than factory proof & zero procedures), the scope has been on the rifle 3 times & 1 mag has been inserted 3 times (all for these pics!).
Right view of buttstock Direct copy (or possibly actually Soviet mfg) of the Soviet SVD, the only difference I have seen is the small "cutout" at the rear top of the top cover which isn't present in either the 83 or 92 (KBI import) Soviet examples in my collection. See the Soviet SVD album for direct comparison pics of the 3 shown all together.
Trigger group & safety lever numbers Marked in the same location as the Soviet guns.
Right view of action, scope mounted The Chinese scopes are finished in a semi-gloss black, the Soviet military scopes are in a dark gray finish.
Sling markings The sling that this rifle is a close copy of the standard Soviet SKS/AK47 sling with a metal clasp on the end, there are minor mfg differences as shown & explained later (besides of course the Chinese markings on this sling!).
Bolt number marking location Again this is the same location as the Soviet rifles.
T79 right side of scope Showing the markings on the windage knob, English & Serbian/Yugo?
Top view of scope Here you can see the elevation knob & markings, the IR detector switch & the "window" in front of the knob for charging the IR apparatus.
Rear sight Note the sight leaf battle setting uses the Russian character п, the same as the Soviet guns.
Detail pic of the sight leaf Better view of the markings & the battle sight marking.

Right side muzzle w/bayonet This bayonet w/the sawback uses the same scabbard as the other Chinese AKM/AK74 variant w/o the sawback. it uses a different plastic compound & color than the Soviet versions.
Closeup view of the bayonet
Another view cased
Chinese sling w/Soviet sling The Chinese sling uses the same metal clasp as the Soviet as opposed to other more common variants of the Chinese SKS/Type 56(AK) slings which can be found w/leather clasps or small springs.
Chinese sling clasp Top: Soviet SKS/AK/SVD Bottom: Chinese copy Note the Soviet uses a metal attachment riveted to the sling & is zinc coated, the Chinese uses black painted metal & has the sling canvas wrapped around the d-ring & sewn, the Chinese sling is also a bit narrower in width.
SVD sling buckles Left: Chinese Right: Soviet Here again you can see the difference in color & width, also the Chinese sling uses a slightly smaller flat buckle as opposed to the larger, zinced & curved Soviet buckle.
Bayonet case, left view These bayonets use a different hanger than any other AK type bayonet, it's a small curved metal belt hook vs the web & metal hangers seen on all other variants, these rifles came w/the bayonets but no hangers.

Left view of muzzle & gas adjuster
Left view of the forearm.
Left action/scope view Other than the color of the scope virtually identical to the Soviet guns except (again) for the small cutout at top rear of top cover. Note: the number stamped into the wood at the top of the grip area, the scope number was stamped here, same as the Soviet guns again.
Importers marking Here KFS Atlanta Ga, also stamped NDM-86 but 7.62x54r.

Left view The fit, finish & workmanship on these rifles is the equal of the Russian guns I've seen.
NDM-86 .308 version, cased This starts the .308 version pics, this is the black plastic case that CDNN shipped these guns out in.
Rifle set in case The rifle (in .308), scope set, in green metal case w/batteries, spare parts etc, & the green canvas bag which (in this case) contained 1 mag & the cleaning accs.
Rifle & accessories This is what came w/this particular rifle directly from CDNN, the exception is the bayonet, this one also has the sawback, the Chinese sawback versions are extremely tough to find & this one was only the second I'd seen on the loose.
Right view w/scope affixed Rifle is all matching & proper. These guns were reported to have a problem w/out of battery ignitions due to the floating fire pin, in truth the problem occured when using improper (non-milspec) ammunition. the commercial supplier, CDNN recalled sold guns & "repaired" ones in stock by installing a firing pin spring, these "repairs" were reported to be of questionable quality & it was recomended by many 'experts" to have the rifles done by a knowledgeable pro. This rifle had the firing pin install done by AKexpert of the AK board.
Right view, buttstock Identical to the 7.62x54 variant shown previously. These rifles (.308 variant) have been thought to be commercial guns made up for sale here in the US. There is also a possibility that they were intended for an attempted but unsuccesful military sale, either to Turkey or S Africa, both of whom were in the market at this time for a sniper rifle & both utilized the .308 round. This is NOT substantiated at this time but is a possibility.

Muzzle w/Chinese SVD bayonet Very rare Chinese SVD bayonet, these have the sawback blade, most Chinese AK bayonets had no sawback on the blade & were sold w/semi-auto AK imports
