1886 Kropatcheks, rifle top, short rifle center, cavalry car
Interesting well made rifles adopted by Portugal & made for them by Steyr, most rifles are found w/o handguards & it is believed the handguards were fitted to them as a later modification for Colonial troops during a modification to use smokeless powder, sometimes referred to as the 86/91, the short rifles are very rare, the 1 illustrated is all matching which is very uncommon for these, the cavalry carbines are also rare, reportedly a maximum of 7000 made (Portugal didn't have a large cavalry)

Note that all carry their cleaning rods in a channel on the left of the stock, the cavalry carbine stock in the center on the left side is actually worn to the point of the rear portion of the rod is visible, probably from heavy use & wear from carry in the rifle scabbard!

Cavalry carbine w/bayonet fixed
Note these rifles all carry the bayonet on a lug on the right side of the barrel, I have read that there is a specific bayonet for the cavalry carbine but both the bayonets I have fit all 3 variants. It is also uncommon for this period for a cavalry carbine to even carry a bayonet as at this time all cavalry troops of all nations carried either a sword or lance as their main edged weapon.

Rifle action open
These rifles used a tube magazine under the barrel w/a lift to bring the rounds into the chamber, there is a cut-off to close the chamber floor & use the rifle as a single shot as in the 71/84 Mauser & 1886 Lebel.

Note the handguard which goes over the rear band rather than under it as in the French 1917 RSC.
