This album has been put together in an attempt to illustrate the "CORRECT" OE parts needed to convert a 1978 to 1988 GM A/G Body with an automatic to a manual transmission.

-=I do have a G body specific B.O.P. bell and fork FOR SALE=-

The unique marker for the A/G Body bellhousings - the last 3 digits of the bell's actual casting# will be cast into the ballstud pad - if it is a 'correct' G body bellhousing. The incorrect bells will have 403 (10.5") or 621 (11") cast here!

An incorrect (for a A/G body) 462606 bellhousing. Notice the position of the clutchfork ballstud. It's in the upper 1/2 of the pad. This was shipped to me by an eBay seller after assuring me it was the correct bell (his camera was conveniently broke/these are my pictures)- it obviously is not correct and was returned. This is one of the reasons I've created this album.

464697/469697
The 464697/469697 is probably the  most difficult to find of the A/G Body bellhousings. This is for an 11 inch clutch/168 tooth flywheel. The 10.5" 462606 bells are much more common. If ANYONE knows for a fact-why some of these cars (and which models) were delivered with a 10.5" clutch and others came with an 11" clutch-I would appreciate an email .
I've been told the 11" clutch was only delivered with the 350 engine which was available to the public only in an El Camino/Diablo.

This is the unique marker for the A/G Body bellhousings-The pad will show the actual last 3 digits of the casting number, if it's the correct A/G body bellhousing. The other '697' bells will have 621 cast here, as it is a replacement for that bellhousing.

In over 6 years of parts hunting/scrounging, I have only seen two of these 469697 bells. This one, which is in D.M. Gilbert's '78 El Camino, and the other in my son's '78 El Camino.

469697. This bell and the 464697 are identical, but for some reason the 469697 is less common than the 464697.

This is the firewall on my 1983 El Camino.
The upper clutch rod will pass through the hole (1 1/2") that the Cruise Control harness once passed through.
If your car does not have cruise, and this hole has not been punched-there will be a 'dimple' where the hole should be.

This is the firewall on my 1979 Malibu....no cruise control so there is no hole. Notice the dimples - the dimple pointed to with the white arrow is where the hole for the upper clutch rod needs to be. The two black arrows point to where the holes for the attaching screws for the boot need to be drilled.

As the photo shows, the placement of the clutch fork aligns perfectly with the Z Bar and linkage in the A/G Body.
