Field of bales, South Saskatchewan
Buffalo Jump. It is hard to tell, but we are standing on the edge of a cliff where Indians used to run buffalo off.
Buffalo Jump
Big Muddy Lake in southern Saskatchewan
Crossing Big Muddy lake on a gravel road SE of Minton, SK
Although it looks like water, this is actually mud. Big Muddy Lake is a shallow alkali lake that was mostly mud on the part of the lake we passed over.
A weird rock formation in the distance
CASTLE BUTTE
Approaching Castle Butte from the West
Castle Butte is a free standing formation left over from the ice age
Castle Butte is so impressive that it takes your breath away
Castle Butte has a circumference of .5km and and a height of 60m.
That is about as far into the cave as Bob wanted to venture
Castle Butte has many caves
Bob attempts to climb to the top and gets about 1/2 way
Bob discovers that going up is easier than coming down
Barb only makes it about 1/4 of the way up before turning back
A prairie dog makes Castle Buttte his home
Another of the many caves

The weather has carved interesting shapes on the sides of Castle Butte
You could see nests scattered in holes in the rock
Enjoying the day and the scenery
Hard to see, but there is a giant spider web in this crevase

One of the many weird formations on Castle Butte
Ancient Indian carvings in the rock....haha
Just goofing around
Copycat!
A mushroom pokes out of the hard sandy soil on the east side of the butte
It was surprising to see mushrooms in this dry sandy soil
The landscape of the badlands surounding Castle Butte

St Victor's Petroglyphs south of the town of St. Victor
It is believed that these carvings were created anywhere from 300 to 600 years ago by aboriginal people
If you look closely, you can see a face shape carved into the stone at the center top of the photo
The view from the petroglyphs was amazing
Can you spot the eagle shape of the cliff formation
You can see Scout Lake in the background
Just a few of the many Mule Deer we spotted during the day
