Welcome to our photo album of Jakob's 5th grade play, While You Were Sleeping.
It was a mix of Sleeping Beauty and Little Mermaid. The Director, Mrs. Popyk, creates and completely writes the Drama productions every year.
As you will see from the pictures, everything is done to the highest degree; costumes are elaborate and completely created for each cast member, stage sets are also very detailed.
Hundreds of hours have gone into the script making and accompanying music (Mrs. Popyk's brother wrote and recorded 4 original songs for this year's production). This year's cast consisted of 88 cast members and Mrs. Popyk makes sure that everyone has speaking lines and that roles are as even as possible.
Additionally, hundreds of hours went into the set building and design. Hundreds of hours went into the costume conception, design and creation.
I pitched in quite a bit of hours sewing, painting sets, helping at every dress rehearsal and before and after each of the show nights.
Jakob had an awesome role as King Wimpy where he started out as a blubbering fool who was bossed around by and afraid of his wife, Wicked Queen. Later in the play he grew a back bone, stood up to his wife, gave her to the pirates and took on one of the bathing beauties as his new wife. He did a super great job and has a great stage presence. His song was "Big Boys Don't Cry" sung to the melody of "Big Girls Don't Cry" from the 1960's. He amused everyone with his falsetto "Cry-y-y".
