NOTE: Reviews Based on the following Scoring Measure: 1 Being “Forget It” and 10 Being “Must Have” QUANTITY OF PICTURES: Comments: Lots and lots of pictures SCORE: 9 QUALITY OF PICTURES: Black and White Pictures? Color? All the pictures are in color How good are the pictures? The pictures are very good Are there close ups of the marks? Yes there are closeups of the marks but you need a magnifying glass to see them Comments: SCORE: 8 QUANTITY OF INFORMATION: Range of information offered? Is information thorough? Comments: I think the range of information offered is very good SCORE: 9 QUALITY OF INFORMATION: Accuracy (are there mistakes?): Comments: The time line for the 1947 copyright marks would be more helpful if it included paragraph 2 on page 200 when it states that most started using the copyright mark in 1955 SCORE: 8 VALUES LISTED: Are they helpful or realistic? NO Comments: Price guides are never Realistic!! SCORE: 7 USER FRIENDLY: Is the book easy to read and follow? Are things easy to find (table of contents/index)? Comments: I think the book did really well here SCORE: 9 TOTAL AVERAGE SCORE 8.3 Is this a must have book? Yes Overall Comments: What I liked about this book is the Time Line in the front. As you move through the chapters of the book, you get to see some very good examples of hard to find period jewelry. The Silesian wire, Berlin iron and Cut Steel pictures are very good. The book does a very good job of jewelry mix from 1 of a kind pieces to mass produced jewelry like the Lalique pendant on page 113 to the mass produced enamel birds on page 75. The 5 Micro mosaics on page 66 are not Micro’s but are just mosaics. The pictures of the marks that are in the book are very very poor. | |
