TYPES OF SETTINGS:
Bead Set:
(setting in which stones are held in place by beads raised from the surrounding metal)
Bezel:
(metal band with top edges burnished over to hold a stone in place)
Claw Setting:
(prongs of metal hold a stone in place)
Channel Setting:
(a row of same size square or rectangular stones fitted into a continuous metal channel which holds the stones in place)
Collet Setting:
(a short tubular band or collar of metal enclosing a stone)
Gypsy Setting:
(a one-piece mount for a stone which is recessed into the metal, with the table of the stone level with the metal surface;also called Star Setting when lines radiating from the stone are engraved in the metal)
Tiffany Setting:
(a four or six prong elevated setting for a solitaire stone)
Pavé-Set:
(stones set close together,showing no metal between them)
