Laverne is now decorated with a green collar. Here she is, munching happily on a pizza crust.
Shirley, left, and Buster (RIP) at home in their corral. All goats have been dis-budded so there will be no horns to catch in the no-climb fencing.
Here we have added Laverne to the group. She is in the rear, and is mostly brown in color. Would you believe Sue drove us home while I held each goat on my lap and whispered in their ear, "Good girl," or "Good boy," and it worked. These are very gentle goats, unlike the African Pygmies we had, that got downright mean and aggressive.
Here's Shirley on top of a portable goat house. They love small little places to go into to sleep and stay out of the weather.
Bambi has a red collar and Buster (RIP) has a navy blue collar.
The Goat Gang, top to bottom, left to right: Shirley in purple, Buster in blue, Bambi in red and Laverne in green.
Buster poses while Bambi (on the right) gets squeezed out of the action, but it's Laverne enjoying the prize pizza crust.
Deep in the woods here is where the goats live. And right behind the chicken coop is where there is plenty of shade.
"And that solves that!"
Putting the food in the goat bowl is the easiest way to feed them, but that's no fun as my good friend and agricultural advisor, Kevin Henderlong, would say.
Yes ! We finally did it, or rather Laverne finally did it. I, for the first time have had fresh goat milk and it is, in fact as good or better than cows milk. It is like whole cow milk with some Half and Half creamer added to it. Fresh goat milk is great.
And now, almost a full gallon of milk. A good 15 months later, Laverne is still giving milk from the birth of Lollipop in June 2008.
We have not had store-bought milk for over a year now, and Sue loves it on her corn flakes!
Our white Katahdin variety "hair" sheep ewe, Maybelle, had her lamb, Lambchop, in November, 2009. The Katahdin sheep will grow a wooly coat in the winter, but shed it out in the spring and never need to be sheared. These sheep are prized for their meat.
Little Bucky, left, and Billy the border collie enjoy a ride in the red wagon together. Buster was born Thanksgiving 2009 and is a black Nubian goat with the typical frosted ears.

Hi, My sister in ARKANSAS is now raising goats. She and her husband started as raising them for meat, but in a very short time fell in love with them and now only will sell them as breeders. In the cold times she even puts sweaters on the very tiny ones. She says she loves them to pieces. - Beverly Boisen | www.healthypetnet.com/beverly, Mon, 7 Apr 2008 8:14AM
