For Christmas 2008 we
purchased an inscribed brick from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (Quantico, VA) to line the walk way of the USMC Museum so it would be a lasting tribute to honor our family;

Capt John N Codrea (my father),
Col George Codrea (my uncle), and Col John E Codrea (my brother).

On July 19, 2006, USMC Col. George Codrea’s funeral military procession took place at the Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Washington, DC. We were so honored that Father Subu from Falls Church and His Grace Arch Bishop Nathaniel were there to officiate. Col. Codrea fought with US marine troops in the Second World War and during the US campaign in Pacific, when he was wounded during a mission on the Guadalcanal Island. He was awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism and courage and the “Purple Heart” for wounds acquired on the battle field. Blessed and honored to have His Grace Archbishop Nathaniel and Father Subu from their Falls Church Saint Mary's parish.

On February 4th, 2002, Col. George Codrea was awarded the National Order “For Merit” in rank of Officer, by the President of Romania, for continuous support in Romania’s efforts or democratization and development.

After retirement from the active military life, Col. Codrea dedicated himself to research and promote other Romanian origin soldiers that fought in the US Forces, his contribution being highly appreciated. May he rest in Peace!

The most beautiful and reverent care is given to the folding of the flag. Slow, dignified and precise. This is a wonderful and solemn ritual that everyone should witness.

It is an honor to acknowledge Col. George Codrea's accomplishment's and service to his country. George Codrea (Lt) was my father's (Richard (Bill) Harding's)  platoon leader at the battle of the Tenaru River, where they were both wounded that night.  Col. Codrea was a credit to the US Marine Corps.
