While I've never been Nautilus-on-a-strap guy, there's no questioning that the casual-yet-elegant design of the Nautilus works well with the combo. The ref. 5980R was a secondary market darling, especially with the rose gold bracelet, the watch on a leather alligator strap still had a pretty high demand. There are a few different members in the family of split-second movements produced by Venus. The most basic version would be the Venus 179, which came with a 30 or 45 minute counter, while replika Jaeger LeCoultre the Venus 185 came with an additional hour counter. From my experience, a majority of these Venus movements seemed to be cased by Breitling in a few different references – the 762, 764, 766, 783, and 791 – and are collectively known as Duographs. In a darker space, the Pelagos 39 looks more like a black Pelagos. In bright light, it hits quite differently. I really like the way that the ceramic bezel insert interacts with light, but it doesn't have the clarity or severity of the matte bezel common to the standard Pelagos models.After all, improvement is a core part of Alpina's ethos back to its founding. That set it on a path to today's brand that features a touch of heritage in its design on the whole, with a very sporty and outdoorsy package.The Duometre Chronograph Moon comes with a pink gold case and opaline dial or a platinum case with copper-salmon dial. (The hand treatment is also different between the two.) The platinum version is the clear standout, though, of course it comes with a premium. It's hefty on the wrist but not top-heavy, and wears nicely on an alligator strap. While it's delivered on a pin buckle, it feels like a watch of this caliber deserves a deployant.
