Windpro can be confusing. They are different in overall thickness, some have some a smooth surface and others feel like a very thick dense fleece. Both are designed to stop wind much better then the standard fleece. For the "Soft shell or Hard Face" I usually recommend a first layer if you are in cold conditions. This type is better at shedding snow, dirt, debris etc., but its not overly thick.

This material is amazing, it is heat trapping, blocks 4 times the wind of the standard Polartec fleece and is breathable. The surface is a smooth tightly woven nylon blend and you will see NO pilling. The added berber fleece in the inside will help keep your cold friend much warmer on those chilly winter walks. If you live in a windy city this will provide more warmth then the standard 300 weight fleece and will shed rain, snow, dirt and of course, wind.

14 Malden Mills 100 with Micro. This is a lighter weight windpro and is great for indoors and quick potty breaks. It's a very nice material and great for most needs in average winter temps. My two, wear their suits all day and night here in the PNW. Note, this one has no water repellant.
