1 Its all about RESPECT... Dominance order is the name of the game for the 56 day old pups this week! Here Xena rolls Intrepid..
| 2 Next... Dauntless...
| 3 Then.. Blotchi...
| 4 And another... Jack can't hide from Momma!
|
5 Tiny is recovering... From her butt whooping, but Dauntless is down for a second count!
| 6 They seem to be behaving... Or at least working out the issues between themselves, sans Momma!
| 7 Its a labor of LOVE I tell you! For the first few weeks I licked their butts, and for the next few weeks I will kick their butts - all part of being a GOOD dog mom! (Xena, can you tell us why NEMO did not get a whooping at this time, HUH?)
| 8 Astro in action! Do you see this pose? This is what I get from him every day! I put a fresh pair of socks on the coffee table (rolled into a ball to keep them paired, you know) and the bugger steals them! So I ask WHO did the stealing and I get this, the PUNK claims the deed! He will snap out his tail like a whip and turn his head aside (to defer to my alphatude) and wait for his punishment (my scolding.) You would THINK after nearly 2 years of this the HUMAN would get the idea, but NOOOOO! (And so the daily morning thefts continue!)

9 Xena's got her alpha eyes going... And Astro (as well as the entire pack) have been helping with the butt whoopings too. The pups are learning this week to behave accordingly when you see Alpha eyes OR ELSE you will face a butt whooping!
| 10 56 day old pups have a rat run... Its late at night, and the pups are not tired out! So we put them on the 'non-dog' side of the yard, where running on abused sod is easier on their bones and joints.
| 11 Xena rolls Tiny... Pups are being rolled left and right! We will have filthy dirty pups by the end of this run!
| 12 Dauntless and Jack... Mess around in the soft soil and downed branches. "Looks like fun to me!" View Comments...

13 Xena is still after Tiny... Tiny has failed to prove to Xena that she respects her elders, so Xena takes extra time to pound the point home...
| 14 Astro gets involved... Astro sides with his mother where dominance issues are concerned.
| 15 Gotcha! Ass and Xena hone in on Tiny!
| 16 Some pups are just on the sh!t list... And tonight it appears it was Tiny's turn! It does seem to me that Xena singles out the bossy and dominant pups to chastise, so don't feel sorry for Tiny - she had it coming!

17 Bed time! Everybody in and up the stairs, its time for dinner and bed in the nursery!
| 18 58 day old pups and my sister! We have made a 5 hour journey (it should have been only 3, but road work outside Menomonie caused delays) to visit my big sis who has been trained by Pat Hastings to do Hasting's structural evaluations. (For more info on the Hasting's eval, or to get their Puppy Puzzle video that shows how to do the evaluations go to www.dogfolk.com) First things first; take a good look at the pups face and eyes - this will tell you a bit about their temperaments. Snapper passes the temperament part just fine.
| 19 Snapper in the hanging position.. This is done at 56 days, give or take 3 days either way. During this time frame the pups proportions are as close to that of an adult as they will ever be - before the growth spurts hit and make them all gangly looking. You place your fingers under the jaw bones and pelvic bones to hang them up; done properly the pups relax and allow it, done improperly and they will fight you all the way! A pup with the desired structure hangs in a stacked position. "Just think of all the ribb..." View Comments...
| 20 Snapper with feet on the table in a stack. The angle of these pix are goofy because I could not be in front of the table to take them, so I just held the camera out in front and hoped for the best! The table is set up in front of a mirror, which allows my sister Joyce to see how the pups hang. Joyce then fills out a score sheet. Like the temperament/aptitude testing, this evaluation is done in a place unfamiliar to the pups, by a person the pups have not met. Snapper from what we see her is one nice pup!

21 Tiny is next... Not happy about being held on her back by a stranger, but no indications of aggressive or goofy temperament.
| 22 Camera missed it... Batteries on low, and bad shots -didn't get the hanging shot (sorry!) Tiny hangs nicely, not as nice a topline as Snapper, but a very nice body on her, very nice chest.
| 23 Intrepid next... Intrepid is my favorite so I am anxious to see how she stacks up! She isn't happy about being held on her back, she is struggling but not aggressive.
| 24 Intrepid doesn't hang pretty... She won't settle down, is fighting all the way...
