MASA price list LaSiesta 1989

Torrevieja, urbanization La Siesta and my take on the Spanish property market

One of the original price lists. Rule of thumb for the EURO conversion: Multiply by 1.4. 9,950 Pound or 14.000 EURO. Second hand furnished 34m² apartment in these blocks could be bought for about 15.000 EU (or equivalent, the Euro was not introduced yet) in the early 90ties. A considerable oversupply existed at the time. The official price directly from the builder, in this case MASA International, will have been slightly higher. Anybody who bought one and hold on to it should have made a nice profit. The going price for one of the smaller 26m² studio apartments is now 43.000 EU. (Internet checking was not yet available in 1992.)

Disclaimer: I do not know the present legislation. Rules change all the time. Most of my information dates from the early 90ties when I toured the Costa Blanca in a dilapidated car - some en route repairs. The defective axle bearing was beyond my abilitie...

Rule of thumb for the EURO conversion: Divide by 100 and subtract 20%. About 18.000 EU for the 2.200.000 Pts bungalow.

One sales prospect, no longer at hand , did liken the weather and  landscape to that of Florida. Airline pilot and proud home owner: "everything reminds me so much of home". I have my reservations on both points, retirement community aspect maybe apart.

The Sol apartment blocks and a nearby 'hypermarket'. Last picture is a view from one of the apartment rooftops. One of the two salinas can be seen at the horizon. The huge urbanization straddles a land ridge between the two salinas. Not sure if my psoriasis is worth it. Good air quality has to be conceded.

Phosphate spume covered shore. This is one of the two salinas for which Torrevieja is famous. In fairness, the other salina did look better. Swimming (or better drifting) is possible. Proper footgear a must. Everything is encrusted with salt crystals.

Unfinished phase, anno 1993, Siesta or neighboring urbanization San Louis. Not sure about the exact demarcation line. Some signs of vandalism. Would certainly have taken strong nerves to buy into that property.

The billboards are still the same as in the 90ties, the price tags are not. - 'Trastero' can be rendered as store room. It is not clear if the latter is located in the basement (cave).

Baffled tourists. I can get that cheaper at home. Maybe I read too much into it. Still, one could book quite a number of hasslefree holidays for that kind of money.

Apparently you can submit your property to more than one real estate agency at the same time. I suspect however that a compensation has to be paid if the property is sold by the owner himself (the topmost placard).

Apartment house entry hall with Monstera (Swiss cheese plant) and perambulator (baby buggy). Unclear if the bye-law restriction is general or two wheel specific.

Weekday picture. Not quite as impressive as a Tomra PET bottle crusher but it will do.
