Lienzingen, Liebfrauenkirche
Good neighborhood project of the Cistercian abbey in Maulbronn. Telltale feature: the ridge rider. The small Lienzingen hosts presently two mayor churches.

Bird motive at the rafter end between nave and choir.  (Place holder for an unrealized transept).

The porch marquee is just hung in. There are no conveniently projecting floor joist, not at that height. Second thought balconies are sometimes propped up in a similar way.

Lienzingen, Peterskirche
Interpretation of the guide board:

The church is surrounded by a 'wagon circle' of 'Kirchenkammern'. It will have been a fortress church (Acropolis) with drawbridge for the whole village population. Common enough. The outer circle of 'Kirchenkammern' is however unexpected. Would define them in the present case as a form of privately owned self storage. Practical enough when you think about it. No fallout shelter without its battery of family owned lockers.

Remaining mystery. The Peterskirche was founded by the Sinsheim Abbey of Benedict monks (Black Monks). A belfry was permitted. It passed then into the hands of the Cistercians (White Monks) of the close by Maulbronn monastery who fortified the church hill.  No problem so far. May even have been some kind of inter family swap.  What is unclear, why build a second church at the outskirts of the village when you are already in charge of the village church in the center. There is probably ...

Upper 'Gaden' window (=supply shed). The display uses the terms 'Gaden' and 'Kirchenkammern' interchangeably. It is obvious that a church will not be surrounded by 16 to 80 (some subletting?) sacristy buildings.
