GPS Greenbelt (03.03.07)| On Saturday, March 3, students, parents, and teachers from Fulmore Middle School went geocaching. Instead of the traditional log book at the end of the geocache, however, students were asked to solve a mathematics puzzle. Mr. Harris and Ms. Connor would like to thank all of the parents who attended this trip. |

GPS Introduction (Saturday, February 17, 2007)23 students attended the Introduction to GPS. After students received basic instruction, they entered in the waypoints for five hidden caches located on the Fulmore Middle School campus, and, working in teams of two, they were off. Afterwards, students logged the waypoints into http://boulter.com/gps/ and compared where they were on the ground with the map imagery. There will be a few more geocaching experiences this semester.
Students are encouraged to explore www.geocaching.com, and get a Garmin etrex device and start geocaching. "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Geocaching" by Jack Peters is also a useful guidebook. Students are also encouraged to download the google.earth application.
Here are the waypoints to Mr. Harris' classroom: N 30 degrees 14.606 and W 97 degrees 44.994.I would like to thank Juan Orozco of the Austin ISD Technology department for getting me started and hooked on geocaching. |
