The group that collected us from the airport! L to R. John, Daniel, Simeon, and Pastor Charles.
Part of the scenery on the 6 hour car ride to the region of Kenya we were going to.
Zebra's along side the road. (not in any game preserve!)
Rain makes getting stuck normal.
I guess their Hilton Hotels are a little different than ours.
Typical landscape in our region! Kisii Highlands.. Lovely!
First stop was police station. This is the chief and his deputies. The question was.. are you here to preach the gospel? Answer: Yes! Response: You are most welcome! WE will watch over you! We need the truth preached in Kenya. Whew! What a relief since this was our churches first time ever on a mission in Kenya and we did not really know what was ahead! The chief then asked me to say a prayer and sign the guest book. We also checked out with him when we left the village, and again prayed with them.
There are no cars, motorbikes, or bicycles in this village. We rented a car with gas and driver included to deliver us to pretty close to destination. The roads got a lot worse than this before we got there.
Faithful ladies of the church, who were our cooks.. the pastors wife is on the left.
Our Home compound. All the generations live on the same site in different houses. One of the huts became our home for a week!
Extra sheets were hung for our privacy... Toilet on right, bath on left... Hole in ground is what the bathroom consists of..
The Congregation in the church.. (Pastor Charles church) After the first day, the people starting going about the village letting more and more know that the Word of God is being spoken here.. the crowd just kept growing each day!
This lady walked about 20 miles to come to the services, carrying my friend Shem (severly handicapped). It was a joy to have them with us! Soon this boy will need a wheel chair of sorts to get around.. The ground is too rough for a regular wheelchair though...
Part of the group. That is my friend Shem I am holding.
This is a meeting with Pastors and church leaders. They had questions for us, and we for them. The meeting went well!
Breakfast was hot tea with milk in it.
Congregation coming back from the baptism, walking through tea bushes.
Some of the 29 that were baptized along with some pastors.
Pastor Charles and his family. They were wonderful hosts, even giving us the key to their home so we always have a place to call home in Kenya!
The man with the glass is Silvester. God gave him a gift of scripture memory. Any verse I asked him by book, chapter and verse anywhere in the bible, he was able to quote. When I asked him how he does this... he said, I prayed, and God gave me this gift.
Clothes washing...
Rain makes mud!
I thought this shows the hearts of our hosts! So much joy and wonderful times to be had with them!
With Pastors in Gucha, Kenya. Church is in background.
Faithful church ladies... Bibles given by the Foreign Mission.
Baptism. 29 on this day. Wonderful discussions were had about this topic with the pastors as well.
God's lovely creation!! Wow!
As we were leaving this area, this young man asked for prayers for the trials and temptations facing the young in Kenya. Then he cleaned our shoes so we would not get the rented car too dirty.
Meat anyone?

Typical roads! Or can you call them that? You can see why walking is the best mode of transportation.
My dear friend Pastor Simeon (middle) mines these rocks with shovel, then hammer and chisel's them to pieces, which he then sells to raise money to feed his 5 growing boys and wife.
Chickens visted inside our house quite often! Even fought with a cat under the table for scraps!
Typical path to the homes.
Pastor Evans church. No walls or roof, but a lot of youth! We just stopped by to say hi, had no church service scheduled here. However, when this many people showed up, of coarse the Word needed to be preached. God provided!
The second week we stayed in a hotel since the pastor had a house full of guests for the services.... This is a school outside of our hotel. Notice the lady teacher with the stick. She whipped the children, and they they picked up the trash in a real hurry!
Walking home fromt the river with water! Typical!
2nd of two gifts of a chicken! They were so happy to give, that it made receiving very easy!
Chad teaching the children Christian songs in English. They learn really quickly!
Typical views in Kisii Highlands!
This is how tea is harvested! Then the ladies carry the full baskets on their heads and walk to the buying center, sometimes many miles away.
THis is our driver feasting on boiled bananas. They prepared them for us a lot!
Chad and I passed on this delicacy!
Typical lunch time scene!
The kitchen in the homes. No chimney's were seen.
Pastor Fredrick in the front in pink. (second week service host) A meeting was had with these leaders and pastors, and much fruitful discussion was had. The second man from the left knows 7 languages including English.
Congregation in South Gucha, Kenya
This is a Penacostal Pastor's wife and child. They hitched a ride to town. This pastor and his wife said they came out of curiosity and to be polite to the services, meaning to stay only for a short time, but when they heard the preaching, dropped their entire schedule and stayed many days. May God be thanked! This is typical of the desire of many Kenyans to hear the True Word of God!
Passenger vans never run empty. A yellow plate means for hire. When full inside, no problem, just hang on!
