Miracle brooch in the style of Migration period radiate brooches which were popular all over Europe in the 6th century AD, especially among the Frankish, Lombardic and Visigothic kingdoms (see map also in this album). 'Radiate' is a general term used to refer to bow brooches with a semi-circular headplate decorated with a row of radiating knobs. Some have a straight-sided, others a more rounded or lozenge-shaped footplate such as this.
