Conetainer racks ready for planting in my Iowa nursery.
Lupine germination
The ribs along the side of the conetainer train the roots to go downward.
Prairie Dock and Butterfly milkweed ready to plant.
You can see how well the conetainer "trains" the roots to grow down, instead of around. This is a Prairie Dock plant with a tap root.
Here is the roots of a Butterfly Milkweed plant, also a tap root plant.
This planting device is called a "dibbles". It makes a cylindrical hole that you simply insert the plant in the hole and press it in. This puts the roots of the plant 8 inches in the ground, and already directed to go deeper when they grow. This tool disturbs no soil, so it exposes no weed seeds.
The "dibbles" hole.
Finished Prairie Dock plant, ready to thrive!
A Prairie Soke plant that I had to relocate for a project. I subdivided it into 17 different conetainer plugs and babysat them thru the summer and planted later in the fall.
