River
River is a sweet, friendly young rattie, not more than a year to a year and a half old. He weighs 14 lbs. River needs a home that appreciates his energy and enthusiasm! He will keep you busy and entertained! For adoption info or an application, please visit the New Rattitude Website.Email his foster mom if you have any questions.
1 Meet River, a young, energetic, and incredibly sweet, well-tempered Rat Terrier. And so handsome too!
2 River was rescued from an urban animal shelter.
3 River was shaking with fear at the shelter. He had a skin condition of unknown origin that is being treated now and his hair is growing back.
4 The freedom ride from the shelter was a little unsettling for River, but once he came inside his foster home, he began to relax.
Download MPEG4 5 Playing with stuffed toys (and destuffing them!) is one of River's favorite activities.
6 Maybe he's just panting here, but it looks like a smile! River is a happy boy. He does have some little fears of strange objects and sounds and barks at them until he feels safe (he's never safe around the vaccuum cleaner though!).
Download MPEG4 7 River is a young dog that needs to burn off a lot of energy. This video shows how he would benefit from a securely fenced yard where he can run until he's tired out (you'll be glad he did!)
8 He is food-motivated. River has learned to sit and would pick up on other commands quickly. He's being taught not to beg at the table, but he may have been fed from the table in his former life.
9 Look at that sweet face! And he really is as sweet as can be. There are no children in River's foster home but he met a couple little girls on a walk recently and enjoyed their attention and pets.
Download MPEG4 10 River met some friends one day - three rat terriers and a fluffy dog, all of similar size. After a little kerfuffle with the fluffy dog introduction, they all enjoyed running around together and got along fine indoors too. He does bark at dogs when on-leash and seems a little concerned when he encounters big dogs.
11 River has a prey drive like most Rat Terriers. He loves to chase rabbits, squirrels, and birds. He barks at cats when he sees them outside but he did meet a dog-savvy cat (indoors) and pretty much ignored it.
Download MPEG4 12 River is a smart boy and learned this puzzle toy very quickly (food is hidden in some of the cups - he has to sniff it out and remove the cup with his teeth to find the treat). It's a good way to tire him out mentally when it's cold or rainy outside.
13 Those eyes will melt your heart! No matter how naughty he is, all is forgiven when you look into his soft little face!
Oh River, you are a handsome fella! I just lost my 12-year old rattie to blastomycosis and I am hoping my heart is ready for a new fur baby soon! - Cindi Rhoe, Wed, 3 Apr 2024 12:26PM
