Ruby is an NKC registered rattie girl of 3-1/2 years old, weighing a little under 14 lbs. She is a beautiful girl with ruby red markings, envelope ears that don't miss a thing, and big brown eyes that will melt your heart.

She really wants human attention, but at first was very tentative about people, which makes foster mom believe she wasn't always treated well. Over time she has learned to trust, and will ask to be petted, lifting her paw to say, "more, please!"  When she sees people on walks and pats and treats are being handed out, she will stand on her hind legs and put her forelegs up to say, "me, too!"

She loves being outside and going for walks.  She still bounces around on her leash a bit, especially when she sees a squirrel she'd like to chase, but she has learned to pay attention to her person and has become quite the well-mannered young lady on her walks.  Here she is checking in during a break on a hike.

Ruby came to New Rattitude with heart worms, and she had to go through treatment before she could be posted here. You can see the spots on her back where she was shaved so the shots could be administered.  She was a real trooper during her six weeks of recovery, and her hair is growing back.  Here she is at the beach for a quiet walk during her recovery time.

The beach was a new experience for Ruby.  She was fascinated by the waves washing up on the shoreline.  She barked at all the seagulls and danced out of the way to keep her feet dry!

Ruby and her foster siblings at the end of their beach walk.  She really likes being part of the pack and behaves nicely with them.  Here, everybody is being patient while foster mom puts on her shoes, lol.

Ruby is not a pack leader, but she really wants to be friends with the other dogs.  Her foster sister has let her know who's boss, but her foster brother is more accepting and they have started to play together.  In the morning they jump all over each other and tumble in the blankets.  She likes staying close to him on walks, too.  Here she's urging him to check out the water - he says, "no way!"

When she first came into foster care, Ruby really wanted attention but didn't seem to believe she could have it.  She would come close and then pull away, and watch the other dogs snuggle or get petted but hang back.  Over time, she has really blossomed and loves to get attention from foster mom.  She's also becoming more interactive with people she meets - after an initial woof-woof just to establish ground rules.  At heart she's a trusting, happy girl who's learning that the world loves her back!

Ruby has a lot of energy and loves to run in the yard. She's in her element outside and will patrol the yard to monitor every scent and chase away every squirrel and critter.  But her new family experience has her happy to come inside for a treat and a warm blanket.

We think she was kept outside because at first she wasn't sure what the couch was for.  Now you can't keep her off it - she loves to curl up and nap on the soft cushions or snuggle into a warm throw. At night, she goes right into her crate and sleeps there with her favorite blanket. Sometimes she wants to get into bed with foster mom, and she carefully nestles down at the end of the bed, as though she can't believe how good life has become.

Here she is curling up with her foster siblings on the couch.  She's becoming a champion snuggler with her pack and is learning that it's nice to snuggle next to foster mom, too.  She'll wait till the other dogs are settled, and her eyes ask - "can I come up, too?"  As soon as she's invited she will carefully find a spot and settle in.  This life so beats the cold outdoors!

That was a great nap. Now I'm ready to go again.  What's on the agenda next?!  Dinner?  YAY!!

She is such a good girl. She travels nicely in the car, waits politely for her dinner, and has learned to take care of business outside.  Her biggest improvement is that she is learning to pay attention to and communicate with her human.

She's looking for a home where she will be loved and appreciated. And she will love and appreciate you right back!  Now there's a happy ending!
