D&E Support Rings & Bars

D&E used round and oval support rings.  The oval ones are of a textured wire and the round ones are of a smooth wire.  All are round, not flat.

D&E also used support wires mostly for flowers and then small support wires with loops on the end for butterflies.

The use of support rings and bars is exactly the same in the older items and in last gen items.

This one sort of looks like it has a double support ring but the inner one it just the back of the large round setting.

Notice this one and the next one are a pear shaped support ring and the ring has ridges in it.

This is a last gen item and the next that has the same support ring is not, so the use of support rings is the same in last gen and in the earlier designs.

Do not confuse the backing on this that sort of looks like a support ring.  This is the full back section of this brooch is a cast design.

Notice the support wire on the back of the brooch and the next one.

Notice it is very similar to the support wire often seen on flower stem brooches of which a variation is shown in aqua

Flower stem brooch with the usual support wire on the stem but this extends up to also support more flowers and there is another wire supporting more flower heads.

Notice this slightly different support wire often seen between the wings of butterflies.

This is a last gen butterfly and the support wire use is the same as the earlier butterfly.

NOT D&E

Note the support ring is more flat and also has those flat support bars.  Not something seen in D&E.

NOT D&E

Note the support ring appears to be cast.  D&E support rings are not cast even on last gen items.

NOT D&E

You are probably saying, what.  This is not D&E.  No it is not.  Some company took great pains to make something that would look very very similar to D&E.  On thing that helps to say no is as far as we know D&E never used those gold navettes with the rhinestone in them that were used for the eyes of this cat.
