enlarge 93KB, 800x600 1 Pravachan - He was amazing speaker. Today's talk was on Ravan dahan and Sri Rama's victory over evil. He was explaining how a person falls down below all levels when that peson insults or abuses a "Naari" - a woman. Any mythological sequence we take, God's avatar has always punished people who abuse women. Ravan had abducted Devi Sita and hence met his end. Come to think of it Ravan was a very staunch beliver in Lord Shiva but even the lord could not help him as he had abducted a Naari. It was such a thought provoking talk and I just stood there listening to him and wishing I had come earlier to listen to this talk from the beginning.

The temple had taken special permission from the Fremont City Council that they would perform this kind of an activity as it involves firecrackers and fire. We had to do this in a given time slot of 5 minutes and wrap up the whole thing as soon as possible to avoid any complaints from nearby residents. enlarge 67KB, 800x600 3 There burns the evil Ravan. History says that people adopted this strategy of burning an effigy of Ravan to prove the point that evil cannot survive the strength of fire. If a good person is as strong as fire in destroying the evil then the evil person cannot hold back against it.
enlarge 78KB, 800x600 4 Did you know that Ravan was a result of the curse given to the body guards of heaven(Vaikunta) - Jay and Vijay. The 2 persons born were Ravan and Kumbhakaran. They were brothers. The curse was an immediate impact of the arrogance they showed to the mental manifestations of Lord Brahma's sons - Sanakhadi Maharshis. Vishnu gave them a choice of 3 births of hating Sri Hari OR 7 births of praising Sri Hari. Jay-Vijay chose 3 births. The second birth was Ravan/Kumbhakaran. Sri Rama was the avatar who gave moksham to Ravan and Sita Devi was Lakshmi who caused the result of the Moksham.

They are the ones who fall from the tallest of all heights plummeting down to the netherworld. The day evil takes over mankind's goodness that day will be the day God again comes down as an avatar to protect and finish the evil.
