We thought we would go to San Francisco and look at the lights during the holiday season. The main places of visit planned were the Ghirardelli Square, Embarcedaro and Pier 39 - fisherman's wharf. All though Ghirardelli Square proved very boring and dull with no Christmas tree this time, the other places were pretty exciting. for one thing the crowd was less and the other the temperature was not so unbearable. Check out some of the pictures we were able to capture. Happy Holidays and enjoy and Happy new year !
P.S: Thanks to the Tripod, we never had to ask anyone to shoot any pic for us nor we had to explain them which button to press to click in the night mode.

enlarge 73KB, 800x600 2 Bow and Arrow I really dont know what this monument is, but its nice. A huge bow and arrow with the arrow and the bow half embedded into the ground.
enlarge 131KB, 800x600 3 Embarcedaro Look at the ligthing on the Business center on Embarcedaro street. On your right you can see the Ferry building showing the time 7:25. I dont know if you can see it though.
enlarge 146KB, 800x600 4 At a cafe On our walk along the Embarcedaro, we found this cafe with nicely decorated Christmas trees, hence a perfect location for a click.
enlarge 108KB, 800x600 5 Leaving Embarcedaro We walked for about 20 mins and on our way back to our car we spotted this office building with lights decorated all over it.
enlarge 110KB, 800x600 6 Ghirardelli Square This day was the most boring day at Ghirardelli Sq. We thought there would be a big 50-foot tree and there was nothing except a 6 foot tree which you can see in the next picture.
enlarge 141KB, 800x600 7 Yeah that's the one It was fine (even though boring) with singing and music in the background.
enlarge 109KB, 800x600 8 Some other ligthing... A few buildings inside the Square had some decorations.
enlarge 112KB, 800x600 9 Union Square Tree Yeah, now we are talking enjoyment. We took the cable car from Powell and Hyde to Powell and Mason. Thats near Union Square where the big Macy's, Saks 5th Avenue and various other branded stores are located. This place has kept up its tradition of the big tree lighting in front of the giant stores. When I say giant, they are really giant, spanning almost 3 to 4 blocks at a stretch.
enlarge 155KB, 800x600 10 Saks In front of Saks 5th Avenue. The name comes from the store being located on 5th Avenue in New York City. Ironically it is only in NYC that it is located on the 5th Ave., not anywhere else :)
enlarge 162KB, 800x600 11 Macy's The giant Macy's store. I heard it is the largest Macy's store in the nation. Wow !
enlarge 176KB, 800x600 12 In front of the tree There were lots of people in front of the tree. Looks like the crowd too was dissapointed with SF during the holidays or maybe we went in a little early during the season ;) I dont know !
enlarge 133KB, 800x600 13 Macy's continue The gaint Macy's store continue onto the next block and the next building. It has a spearate block store for Men's wear called Macy's Men store.
enlarge 114KB, 800x600 14 Ain't it beautiful? Yes, we loved the tree and the lights displayed. It was fun, romantic and nice. Weather too was not very cold, but it was starting to get a little chill outside.
enlarge 141KB, 800x600 15 Heading into Macy's We started to head inside to Macy's and simply check out the holiday sale tags. Its fun to see the stores during this season than empty your pockets buying something from them.
enlarge 121KB, 800x600 16 Food court After checking out some of the aisles we headed down to the basement where the food courts and restrooms are located. We had a customized Sundae from Ben and Jerry's Sundae specialists. Priya had a Butter Pecan and I had Chocolate.
enlarge 113KB, 634x800 17 A closer look at the sundae box It was tasty and nice. After we had the sundae we started to head out of Macy's.
enlarge 161KB, 600x800 18 Tree inside Macy's The time was already 10:15 pm and we had to head back home as the next day we both had to work.
enlarge 152KB, 800x600 19 Holiday Parade On our way out of Macy's we got an excellent photo oppurtunity in front of the traditional Macy's Puppets doing the holiday marching. This is the last picture and we called it the day off after this and headed straight back to our car and drove back home. It was a fun filled evening although I expected lot more activities in SF during this season. Happy Holidays folks and enjoy your new year and have a wonderful time.
