Goda-Kalyanam @ Sunnyvale Temple

With the divine blessings of HH Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji, JET California and Bhakti Nivedana organized divine kalyana mahotsav of Lakshmi-Narayana/Rukhmini-Krishna/Goda-Ranganatha. Sriman Raghu was the pioneer in organizing the entire event which was successfully completed by Pt. Govind Srinivasacharya Swamiji of Fremont Hindu Temple. About 600 people attended the grand mahotsav and not only witnessed the divine couple getting married but also performed the sacred marriage and the rituals themselves. Sriman Vamsi and family & Sriman Vishnuji and family also contributed in getting the flyers, lights, backdrops, etc., Kumari Sharadaji, disciple of HH, explained the entire puja, mantras and the history behind performing the divine marriage. Without her explanation, we all would have to just blindly follow something that we never would have understood. All in all with the blessings of HH, the entire event was successfully completed.

After performing the Haarathi Govindji ties the RakshaKavacham to the divine couple. For Srimannarayana (gentleman) the RakshaKavacham is tied on the right hand. For Goda (lady) the same is tied on the left hand. This bonds the couple together and drives away all the evil before the auspicious event of the kalyanam. Observe the picture closely and you can see the RakshaKavacham put for the couple.

After the RakshaKavacham, Govindji ties the Yagnopaveetam to lord Srimannarayana and performs the Paada Prakshalanam for the divine couple. After the Paada Prakshalanam, Govindji performed the Madhuparkam. What is Madhuparka? - It is a mixture of water, milk, honey, ghee and curd much close to the Panchamrutha. It is offered for soothing the couple of the tiredness that is caused so far in the ritual. Observe the picture closely and you can see the Yagnopaveetam for lord Krishna and the small container in the middle of the divine couple is the Madhuparka that was offered.

After the Madhuparkam, Govindji reads the Pravara of both Goda and Sri Krishna. Before the Pravara Sriman Vamsi and Karthik go around the crowd in search of the suitable bride for the groom. In olden days when the bride and groom were to be matched, there generations lineage would be looked up. Pravara consists of a group of Rishis who constitute a triumvirate (3) or pentagon (5) of almost 5 generations back in the lineage. Sri Krishna is the supreme lord Srimannarayana himself. The diety form is the 5th generation, his father being the Antaryami, his grandfather being the avatar as human form (Sri Krishna), his great grandfather being the Ksheera Saagara and his great great grandfather being lord Srimannarayana himself in Paramapada, Vaikuntam. Sri Andal was born in the garden of Vishnuchittha, Peri Aazhwar. For the divine couple there was a match of 3 rishis and hence the relation was considered to be very good and sacred. Once the Kanyadhanam is completed the next ritual is the Mangalashtakam - the first visual exchange between the bride and the groom. You can see Sriman Vamsi and Karthik holding the cloth between Goda and Sri Krishna.

Singing so Govindji and Sriman Vamsi perform the Akshatarupanam - the next ritual after the Mangalyam and Saptapadi. It is the ritual of putting Akshata (saffron colored rice) over the divine couple.
