Joe "SPEED FREAK" Dutra
Hello Everyone...
My name is Joe T. Dutra, better known to many of you as "Speed-Freak", Due to my Love and Passion for Speed & Power, which includes many of my Fast and Powerful Toys of the Past & Present! One of my other passion's Motorsports Photography, and Photography in general.
I have been photographing motorsports since 1979, which I started with Tractor/Mini Tractors, And 2 & 4-WD Pulls, then In 1983 I started photographing Dragboat Racing, NHRA and others, even till this day. In 2009 I decided to hop in the drivers seat. I started racing IHBA & NJBA,CDBA in my Pro Eliminator Cole Hydro, and late 2010 moved up to Pro-Mod in a Deaver Hydro. In 2011 team SpeedFreak won the NJBA Pro-Mod High Points Championship, which I am very honored, and I am forever grateful to my crew and friends that assisted, and got me there! Along with some good driving skills & Cutting Lights.
Photography is one of my Huge Passions, it is an extraordinary way to capture a moment in time! often the artist really wants to express that moment captured in time to see how the viewer reacts and responds? be it laughter, sadness or even at times...Holy *%"t Moments! I hope to take you on a journey with me and hope that you will enjoy the experience, along with memories that have been captured. Keep in mind that there is always the next great photo, whatever it may be...yet to be captured, along with the story yet to be written ;--)
Special thanks! To many of our fine organizations that have been the backbone of drag-boat racing! SDBA-CDBA-ADBA-SLDBA-KDBA-NJBA-IHBA, including Lucas Oil and others! The sport of dragboat racing would not exist! Not to mention, without all the support of The Racers, sponsors, manufactures, photographers/media and of course the spectators!!!
Which brings me to my next comment, Something that many of you already know!
There is one Individual that is very humble but yet has been a huge contributor, and MAJOR key player for many years in the sport of Drag-Boat Racing in general...Mr. Tommy Thompson, A great ambassador and advocate for many years!
2021 is my 42nd. year photographing motor-sports, And what a ride, the memories alone I cannot even begin to express the excitement, and yes even some sadness, I have met many wonderful people along my journey, some that have passed-on! It Sucks!!! but life goes on...But what is Sooo Amazing and Kool is... That we are left with wonderful/amazing Memories! And Memories Last Forever! ;---)
Sooo... John Haas, Tom Black, Ron Braaksma, Tom Cantrell, Bill Todd, Sonny Jones, Jimmy Wright, Dave Nolte, Kenny West, John Young, Jim Hobbs, Tim Capaldi, Denver Mullins, Jim Benson, Denny Vashell, Heuy Jones, Jim & Don Ermshar, Mike Fry and Sooo many others, and team-mates, friends, and so on, you will live on in our hearts and memories, and I cannot forget an amazing friend that got me my start in NHRA/National Dragster start...Leslie Lovett!!! Forever RIP... We spent hours talking about fishing and racing ;-) A True Extraordinary (Bad AZZ) Photographer & Gentleman.
Who know's what 2021 will bring us all ??? But, I do plan to attend various Drag-boat, NHRA, and Tractor Pulls, events...etc, pending there schedule of course! and when I do I will post my pics for you all to enjoy! My favorite are the pits a story in itself...pass the word and my link to your friends and sponsors manufactures etc. Feel free to add in comments, info. etc. to the photos, such as times speed etc. all I ask keep it respectful or you get blocked from commenting period!
