We wish to include a few articles and links on health information.
We are focusing on one particular issue because very few AHT breeders screen for it: Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia, we tend to use the abbreviation MVD. It is to put it as simply as possible micro shunting in the liver. Actual Shunts are sometimes seen in the breed but are more likely to be found. MVD dogs can appear to be normal for the most part. A dog with minor MVD can live a happy healthy life given the correct foods and supplements. They should however not be bred. This is why we highly recommend testing. Even for pet dogs but especially for dogs to be bred. If you are buying puppies ask to see the test results of the parents. Tests can be done on puppies but results are more variable before 16 weeks. There are no lines of AHTs that can accurately claim to not have it their lines largely because all AHTs are related, the breed having started from two dogs in the 1970s.
