Sundial Farm
We are a small breeder of American Hairless Terriers. We breed for soundness, temperament and conformation according to the UKC and AKC standards. Many of our dogs are UKC and AKC champions and Grand Champions.
We show our dogs in UKC and AKC conformation and hope to start in agility and obedience. Occasionally you will find us Terrier Racing as well.

We started with Rat Terriers. Our first Rat Terriers were gotten to hunt vermin on our horse farm.  We fell in love with the breed and found them to be amazing hunters and great companion dogs. American Hairless Terriers were formerly know as hairless Rat Terriers. We got into AHTs because a friend had 2 that we liked.

American Hairless Terriers are good for many people with allergies. We are excited to bring dogs to homes that had not been able to have one before. Ask us about allergy trials and we can direct you.

Please puppy buyers make sure you are buying  puppies from health tested parents who ever you buy from.Do not accept that they tell you the dog is tested. Ask to see proof. Many people including us list dogs on OFA but if they choose not to I am not going to judge, but they should be able to show you results from the vet or testing labs.  More on testing in our health page.

We are one of few who are currently testing for Hepatic Micovasular Dysplasia. See our health information. The Serum Bile Acid test tests the liver function. We believe all dogs should have this test even pet dogs benifit from having a baseline.
All our breeding dogs are screened for good pateallas, heart, PLL, PRA, and DM. We are currently catching up on having breeding dogs hips evaluated by OFA. We have been able to get some dogs hearing tests as well. We are currently using a 150 gene DNA test for our breeding dogs.

We are not currently shipping puppies but I will hand deliver pups for a fee. It usually is just slightly more than the cost of shipping.

Health issues
8. Health issues  (March 27, 2014)
We wish to include a few articles and links on health information.

We are focusing on one particular issue because very few AHT breeders screen for it:
Hepatic Microvascular Dysplasia, we tend to use the abbreviation MVD. It is to put it as simply as possible micro shunting in the liver. Actual Shunts are sometimes seen in the breed but are more likely to be found. MVD dogs can appear to be normal for the most part. A dog with minor MVD can live a happy healthy life given the correct foods and supplements. They should however not be bred. This is why we highly recommend testing. Even for pet dogs but especially for dogs to be bred.
If you are buying puppies ask to see the test results of the parents. Tests can be done on puppies but results are more variable before 16 weeks. There are no lines of AHTs that can accurately claim to not have it their lines largely because all AHTs are related, the breed having started from two dogs in the 1970s.
