7 On the evening of December 31, 1966, the Centennial Flame was first lit by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson to open Canada's 100th anniversary celebrations.
8 The Peace Tower (in French: Tour de Paix), is a focal bell and clock tower sitting on the central axis of the Centre Block of the parliament buildings
9 The Centennial Flame sits atop a circular fountain. The shields of ten provinces and two territories surround the flame to symbolize Canada's unity—From Sea to Sea.
