2009 Kayak Trip Everglades NP
Jack Rich and John set off on what turns out to be the the most exhausting kayak trip so far. Everglades National Park, Flamingo Campground, was the start and finish point. Friday we paddled outside to Clubhouse Beach, then up to Middle Cape during the first day, about 15 miles, all into 2-4 foot seas and 15-20 mph headwind. Saturday was Middle Cape north on the outside to Little Sable Creek into headwinds again, then inside down to Lake Ingraham into hard east winds, a dropping tide and horrible muck traps. Then out East Cape canal to Florida Bay and 2 miles east to Clubhouse Beach just at sunset, for 22 miles total and exhaustion. Sunday was a straight shot home on the outside with fantastic porpoise contacts, our best ever. Good trip!

2-21-09 Lunch break Little Sable Creek
After a HARD slog outside to get there, into a fierce headwind and seas, nowhere to get out of the boats for some eats, so we nosed into the mangroves. After lunch: the ill-fated assault on Lake Ingraham

2-22-09 Sunday at Clubhouse campsite after brutal Saturday 22 miles, adverse conditions
Got into Clubhouse to set up camp after dark the night before. Low tide=huge expanse of muck between us and open water. We camped here after being flagged down by a semi-clothed Commodore Cook, and after Oft. and JLP were almost fatally stuck in the muck in Lake Ingraham, after being abandoned by Cook. Great adventure, hard day.
