John W. Crosley, Sr., son of George and Hannah (Trudell) Crosley, was born July 27, 1930, at Santee, Nebraska in an area that is now covered by waters of the Missouri River. He and his mother, Hannah, were proud members of the Santee Sioux Nation. John grew up on the family farm and farmed with his father. He attended country school and later served his country in the United States Navy. He was married in 1951 and was the father of six children: John “Jack” Jr., Cheryl A., George E., Karlynn Ruth, Margaret F., and Jennifer L.
After returning home from the Navy, John did carpentry work across the Midwest. He was part of the construction crew that built Gavins Point Dam. John returned home to farm with his father before moving to Lindy to continue farming. He and his brother purchased the International business in the old town of Niobrara. John then became the owner of Anchor Ranch which he later sold to the Santee Sioux Nation. The ranch was renamed ST Bar Ranch, which John managed until he retired.
John married Mary Bruner in 1987.
John had a great love for horses. He enjoyed breaking them and participating in trail rides. He also participated in several ranch rodeos. John enjoyed saddling up his horse at the end of the day and going for a peaceful ride. He loved raising cattle as well.
John was a man who loved to visit. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Crosley; children, Cheryl A. (Gary) Vesely, George E. (Lynette) Crosley, Margaret F. Crosley, and Jennifer L. (Britt) Kelley; stepchildren, Pamela Garibay, Rhonda Norman, and Sondra Johnson; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty Warren, Robert (Linda) Crosley, Gloria (Roland) Kluender, and Carol (Bob) Workman; and sister-in-law, Elaine Crosley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hannah Crosley; daughter, Karlynn Ruth Crosley; son, John “Jack” Crosley, Jr.; sisters, Edna Warren and Phyllis Stickney; brother, Carl Crosley; and brothers-in-law, Dale Warren, Don Warren, and Leo Stickney.
