Throughout the 'Reign of Terror" bodies of guillotine victims were stripped of clothes and jewelry and dumped in communal graves.
Madame Tussaud was forced by the authorities to search through the bodies for decapitated heads to make death masks.

How life like. How freaky to imagine all of those people looking at you at at the same time. Quite a work of art though, would love to see a museum in person.
