Spaners installed on a 64 truck.
You can see that pan clearance is a issue if the crossmember was not removed.

Trucks with 727 trans had this crossmember removed at the factory
from 1961 to 1968. After these years this crossmember was not installed
in the frame and all maunle trans trucks used a rear mounted trans the same as the 727.

The 65 2 cable shifter, used only this year. This cable enters the case,
like the 64 pushbutton cable,
so no extra hardware is need like on
the later 66 to 68 shifter.
Must be used with a 65 valve body.

This shows the shift and park cables

Rear "E" brake on the rear housing of the 727 64 and earlier.
Although it is most common to the cable shift trans, it was also used
in large trucks with 2 levers on the
side of the trans were a parking sprag might not be enough to hold.
