Used Boss DD-3 -Version 1 Made in Japan
This compact pedal provides a digital delay effect with outstanding quality equivalent to that of a dedicated rack mount delay unit. In addition to three delay time modes, a Delay Time control is furnished, giving you speedy, precise adjustment of delay time continuously within a range of 12.5ms to 800ms. The hold function repeats the delay indefinitely.
Given this particular unit's age, it's identical to the DD-2 (same DRAM). Boss gave it an updated look and called it DD-3.
This is the warmest "digital" delay stompbox ever made. Why is that?
Though the delay chip itself is digital, the signal routing is a bit different
than modern digital delay pedals. Once the 12bit chip processes delay, it then spits out an analog signal
(delayed, of course), and a portion of that signal is sent back into the delay again (this is controlled by the feedback knob).
So, for each pass the signal makes, it gets dirtier and dirtier, due to the repeated conversion process.
The "self oscillating" HOLD function also makes this particular box more desirable than the modern DD-3.
This unit is the "Plastic Screw" "Blue Label" Made in Japan model.
This particular unit, given the blue label, the large ram chip (with foil insulator behind the board)
and the "Mode" knob NOT PCB mounted
indicates it's one of the first DD3s sold ((and is definitely a "Version 1")).
It also has a "Direct Out" jack on the input side and the "external" power adapter jack (not PCB mounted).
The DD3 was introduced in 1986.
Serial number M60901x
This box is in great shape given its age, with minor dings and scratches on the housing.
See photos below for full detail.
All hardware/functionality has been tested and is fully functional.
