Portland Head Lighthouse

** Famous Lighthouse: photographed often
Nice light but not as great as we expected. We found the people that worked there were not too friendly either. They seemed to have somewhat of an ego in that they felt they had the best of the best in lights. However, after visiting Nibble and seeing the wonderful Pemaquid Lighthouse we tend to disagree. Yes, a nice light but not great facilities. (i.e. restrooms and places near by to visit as well) For example, they didn't have bathroom facitlites at the light. One had to use out houses near the parking lot. Their reason was that restrooms would take away from the history of the buildings. They also felt the same about ramps for handicapped. I got into it with one worker their in the museum. She felt that the handicapped should know that and that is why they had photos of what was inside posted out sided on a board.
*** Might I add at the time we visited Maine they were not required to be handicapped accessible at some historical sites. However, that state law changed sometime right after that. I bet you they were upset about having to build ramps. As one lady and man described it to me on our visit.
