Remembering Mexicana 12/ 2023
It was in August of 1924 that Compania Mexicana de Aviacion was born, using two Lincoln Standard bi-planes to connect Mexico City with Tampico and Matamoros. By 1925, service began to Brownsville, Tx. and growth  and innovation continued through various ownerships until its sad collapse in 2010. Following is a little postcard history of Mexicana

Mexicana Ford Tri-Motor KCF
In 1929, after Pan Am acquired controlling interest, the Ford Trimotor was introduced to operate the route from Mexico City to Tuxpan, Tampico, and Brownsville. Charles Lindbergh flew the inaugural flight. Ultimately 6 Trimotors were operated.
This incredible vintage card kindly shared by Kuo-Ching Fu.

Mexicana DC-2 #1 KCF
In 1934, Pan Am transferred new DC-2 aircraft to the Mexicana fleet, creating a state of the art service in Mexico. A rare Mexicana issue, shared by Kuo-Ching Fu. The image is the same as used on the Pan   American issued DC-2 #4

Mexicana DC-3
New DC-3s were acquired for Mexicana in 1941 and 42, ultimately totaling 21 aircraft. XA-FEG, shown on this JJ issue, was delivered in 1942 and ultimately went to Aero Maya in 1966

Mexicana Fairchild C-82 KCF
New Oil field operations created a need for an aircraft to handle heavy equipment. Mexicana acquired four C-82s in 1957 for oil field and general cargo service. XA-LOJ, shown above, went new to the USAF and flew in the Berlin Airlift in 1948 and 49. Subsequently operated by Steward-Davis in California. Ultimately scrapped in 1972.  Card is from a Mexicana historical series shared by Kuo-Ching Fu

Mexicana DC-4
The first of 8 DC-4s arrived at Mexicana in 1946. A number of cartoon style postcards of the DC-4 were produced, similar to this one

Mexicana Comet 4C #5 KCF
Mexicana made a bold step, taking delivery of the new Comet 4C in 1960. This Mexicana Historical issue, shared by Kuo-Ching FU shows passengers boarding with a crowded observation deck at Mexico City..

Mexicana 727-100 #1 KCF
In January of 1966, Mexicana took delivery of their first 727-064. XA-SEM, shown on this uncommon Mexicana issue was delivered in 1966. Later sold to the Mexican Air Force, it was acquired by TAESA in 1989.  Now restored in Mexicana colors.

Mexicana 727-200 #1
In October of 1970, the first of Mexicana's fleet of 727-264s was delivered. Card is I believe, the first Mexicana issue of the 200.

XA-TAC is featured on this outstanding Mexicana issue. Delivered in November of 1970. It served until 1988, and ultimately became an Avianca Airliner, wfu in 1992

Mexicana F-100 #1
Their first F-100 airliner was delivered to Mexicana in November of 1992. This very nice Mexicana issue features XA SHI, delivered new in May of 1993. It served until the sad closure of the airline.

It was leased to other carriers after 1994, but returned to the fleet in 2002.  Finished its service with Indian Airlines

In 2004 and 2005, Mexicana took delivery of 10 new A-318s. This one, XA-UBR was the first received, on Nov. 6, 2004. Card is from Mexicana's Historical set, shared by Kuo-Ching Fu.

Another outstanding view, featuring the A-318 before delivery. Delivered on Oct 15, 2004, it became XA-UBQ. The entire A-318 fleet went to Avianca.
