The July 4th parade in Huntington Beach, CA is the largest west of the Mississippi. This year I was assigned responsibilities involving the coordination of the several Marine Corps components participating in the parade, and this album concentrates primarily on the Marine Corps role in the day's events.
A point of interest is that one of the parade units is from the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, and in March of 2005 the City of Huntington Beach adopted 3/1, known as "The Thundering Third."
The parade units were: Lima Co. of 3/1, The 1st Marine Division Band, both from Camp Pendleton, CA, and The Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard from Barstow, CA.
Most of the photos are candid shots, and cover the following sequences. First the arrival of the Marines and their families and friends at the reserved parking area. Second, the Marine units as they march in the parade, and third, the private picnic hosted by the 3/1 Committee, assisted by many citizen volunteers of Huntington Beach, for all the Marines and their families & guests.
