1ST MARINE DIVISION APPRECIATION DAY
The 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton held it's annual Adoption Committee Appreciation Day event on May 16, 2009 to thank the many communities and related support groups for Adopting units of the Division.

The event was hosted by Major General Thomas D. Waldhauser, Commanding General of the Division, and the Assistant Division Commander, Major General Richard P. Mills.

Guests met at the historic Ranch House aboard base and then witnessed a live urban combat demonstration by Division Marines and sailors at the K-2 "Muslim Village" training area. Following this attendees returned to the Ranch House for lunch, live entertainment by the 1st MarDiv Band, and Gen Waldhauser's remarks.

The photos in this album follow the sequence of events as listed in image number 1.

After serving four year in the Corp I was finally sent to the Fiert Marine Division. It was the proudest day in my life. I joined weapons Co. 2nd Bn. 5th marinea as a section leader on heavy machine guns. We landed at Inchon and were in the first attack at Seoul. The first day of the battle I was seriously wounded and spent fifteen months in hospitals. I AM STILL PROUD PF MY TIME IN THE FIFTH MARINES and always will be.My son served twenty six years in the corp and anoth did a four year enlistment.

Nancy and I were married at Ranch House Chapel on 8 February 1957.
We have been back twice the last time after it was refurbished after a flood. I was a Pvt. at the time and when I requested leave to get married, 1st Comm Co was about to go to the Phillipines and my C.O. told me the famous Marine Corps saying, " If the Corps wanted you to have a wife it would have been issued to you." Went immediately to "mess duty" wher ethe Mess Sgt. promptly gave me a 48 hour pass. And steaks and butter because, "You can live on love alone." It has lasted all these years and still feels like we are on our honeymoon. Great pictures. Thanks and Semper Fi.
