Tiger Shovelnose Catfish Pseudoplatystoma tigrinum Vertical to slightly oblique black stripes; often has spots, which are thicker on the ventral side; great variation in stripe and spot patterns, at least 14 varieties or subspecies based on colour patterns. Common name: Barred sorubim 104 cm TL; pH range: 6.0 - 8.0; depth range - 5 m; 24 - 28°C; Occurs throughout the principal riverbeds and sometimes in the flooded areas of forests. Feeds at night on fish or crabs. It is without bones. Females reach a more notable size. They become sexually mature at 56 cm, males at 45 cm.
