Using a box
Another idea for a ramp that's not too steep and doesn't take up a lot of room. Drilled holes in a wooden house big enough for a cable tie to go through

Dawnda's Hay loft
This is my cube hay loft. The 3 beds on the lower level are enclosed on top. The hay loft is open on the bottom and top. I just sat the top-level cubes on top of the beds and secured them with trash bag twisties. I lined the bottom with a piece of linoleum. I covered the top with a plastic storage container lid.
The ramp is hooked on with small metal wall hooks that I screwed into the end of the wood.

You'll need a saw, small short nails for the paint sticks, and longer nails to attach the sides. I went to a hardware/lumber store and picked out a piece of wood that I thought was wide enough and a smaller piece for the sides. They would probably like the sides taller since they don't like heights too well. I nailed cut paint stirring sticks doubled every 3 inches for traction. I screwed metal wall hooks into one end to hang it onto the cubes.

In use!
My guinea pigs can go up and down the ramp easily, but they are very cautious coming down. I think a ramp with taller side would make them more comfortable coming down. I'm considering stabling a big piece of cardboard to both sides to make a tunnel out of it. I think they would like that much better.

Bob's cage
The longest run, under their cage, is 60" long and rises up only 18" in height.  The short segment, next to their cage, is 18" long and rises up 6".

Total height gained over 80" inches of ramp is is 24".  So it's really not very steep.  The pigs run up and down it at full gallop, clucking as they go.  They love the ramp.  The short walls on the ramp are fine for them -- sometimes they pause on the ramp to survey the room and see if there are fresh vegetables, but they've never gone over the side.

"Strange yet intresting"
"IS THAT CHERRYWOOD?"

We lined the ramp with rubber mesh shelf liner.  They've nibbled at one
of the corners initially but stopped after 1/4 inch was gone.

Two problems with the ramp:

1) They like to pause on the short segments, as they turn either one of the corners.  That's where they pee.  So we have to add a towel to the short segment to absorb the pee before it gets into the liner and wood. One more reason to polyurathane the wood in the future.

2) The tend to drag the carefresh and hay along with them.  A pile of litter and poops builds up at the base of the ramp after several days. A taller lip at the top of the ramp would have worked better -- they can step over it.

The pigs come downstairs to eat fresh food every hour or two.  That's where we put their vegetables, on the towels below.  I suspect they'd be more cave-dwelling if we didn't give them reason to come downstairs.  So every hour or two they come down to forage and explore a bit, and when their done they always return upstairs to sleep.  We have never needed to chase them upstairs:  it's their preferred spot.  Home is where the hay is.

Fortunately, the pigs do most of their peeing upstairs on the carefresh
-- the rest of the peeing either happens on the towels below or in Jim's closet (on rubber-lined bath mats).  Funny, they don't pee on the carpet in the room.

There are rubber-backed mats, covered with towels, under the cage.  The towels have to be changed every other day.  The rubber mats go into the wash once a month.  I use a hand-vac when I change the towels, and the room itself gets vacuumed once a week during my normal housecleaning.
