While Day 1 was relatively easy, The hike over Spider Gap to Lyman Lake is pretty grueling, especially for a 69 year old. Although you don't have to hike many miles, the snowfield that leads up to Spider Gap is steep and unrelenting. On the other side, when you run out of snow, you have to pick your way carefully through the debris left by the Lyman Glacier before reaching a bootworn trail the rest of the way.
