1966 Catwoman

Awards:
*2nd Place Comic Category Big Apple Comic Con 2009
*1st Place at Work Costume Contest
*1st Place "Sewing Costumes" Contest on Pattern Review

Oct 1, 2010 - Will's Felix Henchman costume is completed!  The hat and shirt only took me 3 hours to complete and $16 to make!  Cheapest, fastest costume EVER!
May 15, 2010 - New Claws!!!  The bases for my old claws were too tight, so I decided to try some brass guitar finger picks instead.  They worked beautifully and fit so much better!
Oct 20 - The suit was finished in time for Big Apple Con! It was a hit and quite popular with Julie Newmar herself :-D I also managed to find the boots at the very last minute (the morning of the day I needed to wear it).
Oct 14 - ALL the seam binding is in place. I never want to see seam binding again *oy* It was worth it though since the suit doesn't itch at all now :-D
Oct 11
- Claws and Gloves are done! This costume is 95% done now!!! I just need to find the boots!
Oct 7
- The collar is done! *New Pics added*
Oct 3
- The arms are done and sewn in!
Oct 2 - Adjusted the fit of the body suit since the ribbon cinch and zipper was added. I also added stirrups to the pant legs to keep it tight while wearing. *New Pics Added*
Oct 1
- Bodysuit is 75% done, need to add sleeves, collar, zips, and ribbon cinch as well as adjust any sizing after completion.
Sept 25
- Bought my fabric for the catsuit... starting to draft the patterns for it. Also working on the ears and mask.
Sept 23
- Found "the" belt on Etsy :-D SCORE!

Phenomenal costume! You are so talented :) I had decided to do a Julie Newmar-style  catwoman this year and stumbled across your photos on google. You are quite the inspiration! :)

Made using metal filigree pcs found at a local bead store, Swarovski Rhinestones, and a Lion head/rhinestone button.  Chain and clasp were also found at a bead store.

Large vintage Lion Head and Rhinestone button for center medallion.  It was glued onto a large flat round filigree piece and SS16 rhinestones added to that.  The ovals were made with Swarovski rhinestones and jewels.

Not Julie Newmar, but still the catwoman costume.  It has good details of the boots and mask/ears.

Fake Nails, claws, polish and glue.

Cut the tips off the claws, you don't need them.
Mark the tips 1-5 with 1 being your thumb and so on.
Pick large nails for the thumb and middle finger (#1 and 3), medium nails for the index and ring fingers (#2 and 4), and small nails for the pink fingers (#5).

26
Use a Sharpie to mark the claw shape on the nail and cut with small scissors.  File the edges smooth with a regular nail file.

You can then glue them on the claw tip and clamp to dry with binder clips.

27
Let all the tips dry thoroughly before painting.

Enlarge photo 28
28
Use binder clips to hold the claws while painting.  This way you don't get polish all over your fingers or work area.  I also slipped them over a sharpie because I ran out of clips.

See how the numbered claws correspond to certain fingers.  It makes it easier when getting suited up to quickly put your claws on.

Put your claws on, and then carefully slip the glove on making sure each one extends through the hole in the tip of the glove fingers.
To get the second glove on, you may need help from someone else to pull it to the elbow ;-)

Pretty dang close looking to the originals and it only cost about $24 to make with gloves, nails, and polish.

Yay!  All the seambinding is in!  Since the raw edges of this fabric were quite itchy, I had to bind every raw edge in either foldover elastic or bias tape.
It helps reduce the itchiness a LOT.

Will's new Alley Cat henchman costume.  Every Catwoman needs her catman ;-)

I found the fabric locally for $16 (two yards) for the shirt.  The hat was made from my old pleather padme corset and some black fleece I had on hand.  It was a last minute costume, so when time allows I'll upgrade the hat properly and get him the 'awesome' sunglasses too lol
