Meet Sundance, an 11-lb. fellow who is 12-18 months old.

In his cage at the shelter he was VERY nervous and trembling, clearly terrified of anyone reaching for him. But once the AC Officer picked him up, he chilled out a bit, as though resigned to whatever was going to happen to him.

Slowly he began to trust that our hands were going to offer him pats and scratches, which he obviously enjoys.

For the first few days here, he would watch us with a concerned, wary expression.

As his confidence grew, he relaxed...

Sundance has been perfectly reliably housetrained. He has learned use a doggie door if one is available but, if not, he will "hold it." He has even gone 9 hours without a problem.

Outside, he likes to wander around exploring the sights and smells.

Often he will just lie outside quietly in the sun, calmly listening to the stories being told by the neighborhood dogs, chattering birds, delivery trucks, and passing airplanes.

Just sittin' and listenin' and being a great watch dog.

Sundance loves to play with toys, which he will accumulate in a pile.  Click for a short video.

He usually likes to spend his time during the day on the family room couch. One day he decided to be a paperweight for the pile of clean laundry.

By about day 5 with us, he was not only coming to us for pats but would  even put his feet on us and give kisses. In this short video he still looks pretty nervous, but at this point it is more about the camera than us. For whatever reason he finds the camera quite intimidating.

Sundance's coat is so dark glossy black that I have to brighten most of the photos to see any eyes at all. This of course lightens up his coat too, making it look more charcoal than the dark black it really is.

Sundance went on a camping trip and met lots of new human and canine friends. He did great with everyone. He was playful with the other dogs and interested in the people, especially those who were handing out treats.

I don't know why I can't get this video to be straight up and down instead of sideways. But you can see how much fun Sundance had playing with one of his new doggie friends... one who has been very sick for several weeks and has had no interest in playing... until she met Sundance, that is.

He is such a well behaved pup. He seldom barks, doesn't get into mischief, loves to snuggle with you, sleeps quietly all night long, is learning to sit on command for his meals, and is always very gentle.
