Here is Subaru, a family-friendly girl. She was erroneously ID'd at the shelter as a Rat Terrier, and the error wasn't discovered until she came to rescue.

She is about 1 year old, weighs 35 lbs., and stands about 18" tall.
"absolutely precious!"

Subaru is very playful. She was quite rambunctious when she first came from the shelter, so has been learning to not jump up, to not nip heels when playing, and to stop bumping into people.

She does certainly love to play! She'll run back and forth across the yard just for the joy of it.

She very much likes to play with the other dogs here, but they are much smaller than she is, and she plays in a very physical puppy fashion, so they're a little nervous of her. Sometimes the other dogs ignore her, but she keeps trying to get them interested in playing.

In the beginning Subaru needed to be supervised to keep her from getting into mischief. She was obviously used to doing what she pleased, with no discipline. But she wasn't a naughty girl... just had been either indulged or ignored. Once she started learning the rules, she has settled down and can be left alone, uncrated, for several hours problem-free.

We call this videoclip "Being Subaru" because it's so typical of her happy, goofy, exuberant nature.

Mostly, she wants to stay around her person, and follow you around the house.

Subaru is generally pretty quiet, though she may bark at strangers (mostly men) in "her" territory.  She is crate trained and housetrained and quickly learned how to use a doggie door.

She did wonderful at the vet's and quietly withstood the poking and prodding. But when she went to the clinic to be spayed, she was terrified. The noise and smells must have reminded her of the shelter where she was so unhappy.

Subaru would love a lively family with a big fenced yard, other playful dog(s) near her size, and kids (as long as the kids were big enough to not be accidentally knocked over by her).
