This is Maraschino's happy face after she was pulled from the shelter the morning of the day she was to be euthanized because her time was up.

She is about 6-7 years old.

She stands about 10" tall and weighs about 10 lbs.

Maraschino gets along great with the other dogs in her foster home. She and Razz are good buddies, and she is very tolerant of his constantly wanting to wrestle and play with her.
Enlarge photo 55
She has been very well behaved in her foster home. She is alert and active but rather quiet and low-key.
Enlarge photo 66
She can be trusted to be left alone uncrated without getting into mischief.
Enlarge photo 77
She is friendly and well socialized, but a little reserved initially until she gets to know you.
Enlarge photo 88
She gladly accepts your attention, but she isn't pesty about it, and generally waits until you let her know that you're ready for some lovin'.
Enlarge photo 99
She did well with the children living in the home where she temped for a few days.

Mara came to us with a urinary tract infection, so struggled some with house training in the first few days.
Enlarge photo 1212
But after the antibiotics kicked in, things were much better.
Enlarge photo 1313
She found the dog door on her own and obviously was accustomed to letting herself in and out. So with a regular schedule, her house training has been reliable.
Enlarge photo 1414
She enjoys being outside, and runs friskily around the yard, patrolling for critters and following smells.
Enlarge photo 1515
Unlike many Rat Terriers, she doesn't mind being outside by herself and she isn't afraid of a little rain.
Enlarge photo 1616
But she does appreciate the sunshine!

Mara is pretty independent and is content to nap in a comfy chair somewhere without having to be right at your side or underfoot all the time.

But when you're ready to give her some attention, she is ready to get it!

Mara got right into a 4-year-old visitor's lap and enjoyed getting pats from her. She also did a good job with the 19-month old sibling, even when she got "patted" pretty roughly in the face. Mara was patient and tolerant and didn't even try to get away from those grabby little hands.

So if you are looking for a delightful little low-key companion who is not very demanding, she is the one!

Mara hopes that you think so, too.

That would make her very happy indeed!
